I use this Birchwood Casey silicone cloth to wipe down those guns that have been in the safe for awhile once a month...Makes them shine like glass..

I have a variety of cloths and oils I keep around or in my range bag. A lot of times I find this stuff at the swap meet for next to nothing prices. I never put a gun away without at least wiping down the outside. I hate the thought of creating a permanent finger print on the metal parts.

I use the KleenBore silicone gun & reel cloth. I've tried a few other but I like these the best. I never tried the Birchwood Casey brand but they are cheap enough to give a try.

I use a silicone wipe but what you use isn't as important as actually wiping them with something before putting a gun into storage. I've seen too many guns put into storage for long periods of time only to be found damaged by rust and finger prints.

I do the same Chuck and for the few antiques I keep in the safe, I handle them with cotton gloves after the wipe-down just to make sure they are not damaged with prints that eat into the finish (if there is any left).
