I saw this earlier this week, Kimber's coming out with a Micro Raptor Stainless pistol in 2015. That means that it will be featured at the 2015 Shot Show and we'll be reading about it in all the gun magazines all summer long. Then in the first quarter of 2016 Kimber will announce they'll be shipping soon and they'll start to appear in some stores in late 2016 or early 2017. I'm still waiting for the basic Micro Carry that was announced at the 2012 Shot Show to appear at one of my LGS. I'd love to know why Kimber takes almost 2 years to bring a gun into production after releasing the news of it to the public.

Chuck, I wonder if later roll-out dates stem from the Solo. Like it or not, it was a bit of a black eye.

For example, I have a few ESEE knives, and the market has been asking them to make stainless versions. After years, they finally announced that they were shipping out the "First Edition" stainless variants.

The owner quickly got on the forum and opined that they might not stand up to the same abuses as the carbon steel line. I was wondering if he was covering his bets, since lots of YouTube followers delight in buying a product to trash it, then flame it.

As you pointed out (and it's an opinion I share) the farther you get away from the original 1911 pattern the more the problems. After the Solo, perhaps Kimber torture tested this newer model until they hunted down every glitch and stutter.

Wish there were room for a grip safety, but that's just me.

Actually Kimber does this with every new model they come out with, they show it then take almost 2 years to get it into their dealers inventory. Before they came out with the Micro Carry series it was the Master Carry series, I waited over a year for one and finally broke down and bought a Super Carry instead.

I used to feel the same way. Despite my inexperience at the time, I just *knew* that carrying cocked-and-locked was dangerous.

But my job in the mid 1980s required me to deal with both hostile debtors and wear a Dior suit. I bought a stainless Detonics, and it didn't have a grip safety. I hedged my bets by buying a Bianchi thumb-break Yanqui slide (which I still have) since the retention strap came between the cocked hammer and the slide.

Over time I had some overnight guard duties at that company with a buddy, and we slept in shifts. One day I had already been to the gym, worked a full day, and now had to be on-site all evening. I jumped into a sleeping bag, blue jeans, Detonics and all, and thankfully got two hours of shut-eye.

First thing I did when I got up was to check the thumb safety. It was engaged then, and after years and thousands of rounds never disengaged unless I pressed the release.

History shows that the grip safety was a governmental mandate, and not part of the original 1905 design.

Perhaps 2 years in our economy is just the time it takes to tool up, train assemblers, print up brochures and nomenclature, advertise and make the initial shipment.

After all, Harley has the LiveWire electric bike pretty much ready to go. Granted, they are awaiting longer duration ion batteries, but even with production so refined, it's still going to be 2 years.

oh Yeah....this house would buy two.

I'll order two today if a KMD will take my deposit.
On second thought, I order from several dealers.

Hopefully it will be raining "baby Raptors" by next Christmas.

A..."Super Micro Carry HD"...with grip safety!!!
