Picked up my new Rock Island Armory M1911-380 “Baby Rock” yesterday. I came across this pistol right after I ordered the Browning 1911-380. I was a little disappointed in the Browning after receiving it due to the polymer frame. It just makes the gun feel a bit on the cheap side to me as I’m not much of a polymer gun fan, even though I have several. As far as shooting goes, I really like the Browning and have had no issues with just over 200 rnds through it so far. Ms Tejun is warming up to it as well.
So fast forward a few weeks and I began doing more research on the Baby Rock. What I liked most about it was the steel frame. Didn’t find too much in the form of negative reviews and it sounds like Rock Island has good customer service, so I decided to call my favorite LGS and after a bit of a search, he found and ordered one for me. Some basic comparisons to the Browning and Kimber Micro:
Baby Rock; 23.5 oz (empty wt), 3.75” barrel, 4.62” height, 6.62” overall length
Browning; 16 oz (empty wt), 3.625” barrel, 4.73” height, 6.875” overall length
Kimber Micro; 13.4 oz (empty wt), 2.75” barrel, 4” height, 5.6” overall length
Including some camparison pics with my Browning (sporting new G10 Grips from StonerCNC) and my Kimber Micro.
Hope to get to the range tomorrow with all three and compare the shooting experience
