Made a range trip this afternoon to exercise some of my newest purchases. Today, I brought my Browning 1911-380, Rock Island Armory Baby Rock 380, Kimber Micro (to compare to the other two 380s) and the Kimber Ultra Raptor 9mm recently purchased from AZGuy. I had thoroughly cleaned the Baby Rock last night and is very much like the Browning. Matter of fact, I believe I could replace the cheeeeep plastic recoil spring plug on the Browning with one made for the Baby Rock.
I started shooting the Baby Rock first (#1 on the target). The sights are extremely hard to see (for me) so I am looking for a set of night sights if them make any. The trigger sure seems to be more than the published 4 – 5lb range and I believe this was part of the reason for my crappy marksmanship with this pistol. I like it a lot though and look forward to putting more lead down the range with it. Shot 5 mags of FM 100gr ammo with not a single hiccup. The rubberized grips have to go though,so I have ordered a set of Stoner G10 grips that should be here Monday, along with two more mags reasonably priced at $25/ea.
Next up was the Browning. Even though I’ve expressed my disappointment with the polymer frame, this little gun is fun to shoot as well and I was shooting it much better (#3 & 6 on the target) than the Baby Rock. Shot FM 100gr and some Remington 94gr ammo with no issues. This was my first outing with the new StonerCNC Super Aggressive grips and I really like them. Not aggressive to the hands and allow for a firmer grip.
For comparison to the two 380s above, I shot my little Kimber Micro. This thing is also a fun little gun that has been doing well for me now that the round count has gotten up above 700. Will have to check my notes but I should be around 800ish now with it. Love the VZ Grips too !
I then put the 380s down and picked up the 9mm Ultra Raptor and that was like sliding in to a Porche Cayenne (I drove a friends a few weeks ago for an 8 hr trip – SWEEEET !). I shot a total of 8 mags of FM 124gr ammo and one magazine with American Eagle 115gr just for grins. (#4 on the target). What else is there to say about this sweet and sexy looking pistol that hasn’t already been said…… all I can say (again) is a great big THANKS to AZGuy for selling it to me.
All guns performed today as they should, with no issues to report
Target was at 7 yds
