Talley lightweight base/rings

I recently bought a hunter rifle in 280 AI. I would like to put silver Talley lightweight bases/rings on the gun. Looking on the Talley site, it appears that the rings are different for the 84M and the 84L. They only show black rings for the 84L. The kimber site just shows them for the 84 it doesn't distinguish them by action length. I can't image that they are different for the short vs long action but evidently they are? I have a call in to Talley but haven't heard back. I was wondering if anyone had advice or ones if the 84m rings worked on the 30-06 length action.

I have the Talley lightweight rings on my rifles and I love them. I don't know why the rings would be different. When I've called Talley in the past with questions they have been very helpful. It might be that the front sight base radius is just a little bit different on the 84L.

Welcome to the forum from Northern Illinois. You may want to cross-post this question to the rifle sub-forum as some of the Kimber Rifle only folks may stop by here.

I just talked with Chris from Talley on the phone. They do make different lightweight mounts for the 84m and 84l. However, they are interchangeable and fit both models. The only difference is that the 84l mounts come with an extended front base. So he told me if the scope body is long enough the 84m mounts should work just fine.

Which size did you get?

I have the low mounts for one scope, and the mediums for my 50mm scope.

I'm gonna need mediums, I'm putting a vx3 3.5-10x50 on it that I had laying around. I'm going to the the non extended rings as they are the only ones offered in silver.
