Kimber day range report GA

I met Instagator(Gary) at my local range. I had my CCCII, and Gary brought his CCCII (with new grips and sights), his stainless raptor pro, and Ultra. Our plan was to shoot my freedom ammo reman through all the Kimbers to see if initial problems I found with these rounds were shooter, gun, or ammo.

Let me say that it was so much fun to meet up with Gary. He is a nice guy and passionate about 45 1911 and Kimbers. I had originally planned to go through 100 rounds but we got carried away and shot 250 rounds. We experienced 6 FTB and I think each gun except the ultra had issues and both myself and Gary both experienced the issues. This is a much better rate than what I first experienced with 11 out of 100 having FTB. This to me is fine for target ammo but I concluded it was neither the shooter or the guns causing the issues.

It was so fun to be able to handle and shoot the other kimbers. We both had some great groups and a few groups to forget but every hole we made was just too much fun. Here is a 5 shot group I had from 7 yards and Gary was there as a witness.

We had a great time. IIRC the Super Carry Ultra HD also had one failure to return to battery. I think the next step in this evaluation would be to set aside all rounds that cause a failure. Then in the comfort of home use a micrometer to check them against other FM reman ammo and some factory ammo. I'm not sure why those five or six did not want to play.

We had a blast. Maineiac is a good shooter. Took me a while to warm up. The Stainless Pro Raptor seems to have a bit of gritty creep in the trigger, especially on the first shot. It had us shooting very low and left on the first round. Then it would straighten out. Very strange. I had adjusted the the over-travel set screw prior to going. I many have over done it. Field stripped her, removed the grips, removed the mag release, used some Pro-Shot Fouling Blaster to clean in all the little tight places. Then, after it dried, I applied some CLP to let it soak for a few hours. I'll finish cleaning and adjusting the over-travel later.

But it was a great time at the range. Thanks, Maineiac.

Talking All Right!!!

Looks like ya'll had a real good time at the range. Some good lookin' shooting going on between the two of you!!!

Have ya'll had the failure to return to battery with other ammo or just with the Freedom Munitions ammo? Sounds really weird for it to happen with that many guns at once. It pretty much sounds like it has to be the ammo.

Keep us updated as to what you find when you and your pet micrometer sit down and check out the ammo against other stuff that does work in you pistols. This should be interesting!!! Pictures of the measurement differences (if any) will be really good!!

Thanks for sharing guys!!! BTW, what range were ya'll using?

Great shooting, always a good time when you get friends and guns together at the same time, and when you are Kimber nuts that makes it even better, nice job

We went to Big Woods Goods in Canton, GA. Nice range. Well lit and well ventilated. Sure was crowded though, but it was a Saturday morning.

John is a very friendly guy and shoots well. If any of y'all want a range partner in that neck of the woods, give him a call. You'll be glad.
