Kimbers New Platform

There's been some speculation on Kimbers new platform. I personally don't believe that they are coming out with anything that has not already been posted in the 2018 New Products section of their website. So let's pretend you're in charge of Kimbers new products and you have the power to bring a new gun to market, what would it be. Give this some thought and describe it in as much detail as your can.

I'm particularly interested in what our ladies come up with.

Well, I don't qualify on the ladies part, but here is my suggestion:

The K6S has been well received and is liked especially for the trigger -- I think that there is a great opportunity for an expanded revolver line up thru the premium level. Ruger and S&W are well established, and Colt is trying to make a comeback, but Kimber has carved a niche out already and I think they could grow. After all, they have succeeded based on 1911's, and how many more suppliers of 1911's are there than revolvers?

Good question.

I was surprised to read Kimber saying their production can’t keep up with demand. If true, I wouldn’t be in a hurry to fix that with a new platform they can’t sell.

Your correct the K6S was well received however some K6s owners have had some issues that I feel should not have happened.

I agree with Marshall, better QC, more people to perform QC, I don't know whatever it takes.

OK ... how about something that's not out there. I want a 1911 long slide (6"), in .22 long rifle, alloy frame, stainless slide, maybe with some cool cut outs to lighten the slide, (like the S&W).

Adjustable rear sights, fiber optic front. G10 "target" grips. Must be fitted to "match grade" with a 3 1/2 to 3 lb. trigger. I want a front rail and a bridge type mount for co-witness optics.

Hey I've got my EDC, home and lots of range guns so I'm just looking for interesting things to shoot. And I love .22s.

The new products are nice, but they're pretty much the same-old-same-old with new gingerbread. Yawn. Not that there's anything wrong with Colt 1911 or Colt Mustang clones--Kimber does very well at that. But I think the 1911 is a diminishing market.

I'd like to see them revisit the Solo. Despite being an outspoken critic of the gun, I'll admit it had some magnificent characteristics. To begin with, it was just beautiful. It was a handy size that was a hoot to shoot. But most importantly, for concealed carry, I like a long, light trigger pull. The Solo did that nicely.

Even if Kimber can't make such a gun to be consistently reliable in a 9mm, maybe they could reboot it in a .380, perhaps shrinking it down in size. That would be spectacular.

Higher capacity double stack, 1911 style. If the concept of the Hudson H9 could be perfected, there's a gun. I'm waiting for all the bugs to get worked out before I get a Hudson. I'd much rather get a Kimber that checks all the same boxes (and maybe a few more ).

Please do not throw me into the Pit of Misery for this.

How about expanding the "long gun" part of the catalog to include semi-automatics. Possibly a shotgun or two and it might be interesting to see Kimber's interpretation of an AR and M4.
