Miss Feed

I am having an issue with Winchester 230gr FMJ factory ammo occasionally not feeding properly. It sticks at the top of the feed into the chamber. I have a Pro CDPII. This issue is happening way too frequently. I utilize this weapon for my conceal carry. What do you think is the cause and should I return my weapon for repair/inspection?

Is this Winchester White Box ammo or what? IMO, WWB is horrible ammo.

Can you report on how the gun performs with other ammo?

How long have you had the CDP and how many rounds have been through it?

What magazine are you using?

It is white box. The typical ammo that you can buy at Wally World, aka Walmart. I have used Federal 230gr FMJ and Remington, but mostly Winchester. I have fired pretty close to 1000 rounds through it and I've had the weapon for almost two years. I am using one Kimber mag and two off brand mags. It does'nt matter which mag I use either. I have read a couplle of other threads that recommends thee WC mags in stead of the Kimber mags and that the hood bevel could also be the issue. This is my first Kimber and am concerned deeply about this issue.

Thanks for the additional information.

Your original post stated you were having a problem with WWB. Can we assume you are not having problems with the Federal or Remington? If that's the case, stop using WWB. It's a dirty, jam-o-matic ammo anyway. But that's just my opinion.

Also, from your post can we assume this has been occurring throughout the 1,000 rounds? On all ammo or just WWB?

If it's been doing it with all ammo, I'd call Kimber CS to get a tune up.

If it's just with WWB, stop using WWB.

BTW, you said it is a Pro. Have you changed springs? I think the Pro change schedule is about 800 rounds. If this feed problem is fairly recent, it may be weak springs.

If you're gonna change springs, I recommend the Wilson Combat flat wire spring kit. They say it's supposed to get 10 times the service life out of it.

I do not recall getting FTF problems with anything other than the WWB stuff. The Federal and Remington ammo seems to work fine. I did not know about the spring issue though. I will use my WWB in my XDM45 and resupply better ammo for my Kimber. I may also try the WC mags and look into replacing the spring should this issue continue with other ammo. Lots of "food for thought".

How about a pic of the stoppage? Based on what I hear with some assumptions is that there is too extractor tension and or insufficient extractor gap.

Thanks for your input Mike240. I will try to remember to take a pic of the FTF next time and post. Good info to be had here. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one having this issue with my PRO CDPII .

Gator is absolutely right about the WWB. I had all kinds of issues with that junk.
