Bought a new S&W 638.

I, like most of you are gun nuts. I have a safe full. I can pull just about anything I want out of that safe. Anyway 40 + years ago when I started my Law Enforcement career I carried a S&W model 19 then a S&W mod 66.
When I became a detective I carried a S&W model 38 Bodyguard.
I loved that little Smith J frame.

In a weaker moment I sold my Smith's 39,59 66 and my model 38. I have always regretted that. My youngest son bought me a used Model 38 at a gun show. It was nice but nicked up and with many scratches. Today I sold that one and was going to order a new model 638 just like my oldest son bought a few weeks ago and he never fired yet. Well tonight he sold me his new 638. I felt bad and told him I would buy another one. He said he really wanted me to buy it. I did. He then went back in his bedroom and came out with a new S&W model 642 I didn't know he had. Anyway I now have a new model 638 and I think I will really like it. Still have my solo and all the others but I guess I am just a wheel gun guy at heart.

Yeah, Like I said in a weaker moment I sold two great firearms. I wanted to go to the Daytona 500 with a bunch of guys I worked with. Did not make much money back then and I had a wife and a three kids. Something had to go. I can't tell you who won that race but I can tell you it cost me plenty. Now many many years later I have replenished my safe but I could still sell some and be ok, but I wont.

Congratulations on the new j frame. I'm a big revolver fan too. The majority of my handguns are Smith & Wesson revolvers.

I had to look the 638 up to see the barrel size that it came in...
That's a great looking revolver....

Wink Congrats!!!

Hey congrats on the new 638!! Nice carry revolver. My hand is too dang big to deal with a J frame Smith. I can completely lose a J-frame gun in my palm. The best I could do with a small carry revolver was with a Smith and Wesson M-19 2.5" .357 Magnum with a hand filling, yet compact, Pachmayr boot grip. I did an action job on it, highlighted the sights and kept it for years as my carry gun. It was accurate as hell and comfortable to shoot double action with 140 grain magnum loads Loved it.

Then sometime around the turn of the century, I sold off all of my revolvers and joined the modern concealed carry movement. I replaced all my revolvers with semi-autos!! Maybe I went too far, though. I miss the revolvers. Looking for a nice M-19, Ruger Speed Six or Colt Detective Special now!!
