Front Night Sight Fading Out on New Ultra CDP II

I just noticed my front sight is fading out and going totally black at times. I will call Kimber customer service today. Does anyone know if they'll just send me a new front sight or will they want the gun sent to them for repair?

Kimber will not send you replacement sights, you will have to return the gun to the factory. Kimbers are known to have extremely tight fitting sights and without a good sight pusher almost impossible to move.

Cool As Usual.......

As usual, Chuck is right again!!! The tritium inserts are supposed to last for 8 to 10 years. It is weird that a set on a new pistol would fade out. The only possible reason I can think of is if the tube cracked. Even then, I'm not sure how the tritium would react.

I believe you are best off to return the pistol to Kimber and let their customer service wizards deal with the problem. They are quite efficient and timely. Let them do their thing!!!

Night Sights Question

Hello,
Seeing this topic made me remember to ask which are the 'best' night sites for a Kimber ultra carry 2 with Crimson Trace grips (not that the grips matter for this). I know Kimber has their own brand of night sights but didn't know if it would void any kind of warrenty if you went with a 3rd party brand? If not, is there a 'known best' set that works?

I have a Glock 17 with Tritium night sights (Green and Green) and in TOTAL dark they glow a little bit but any light and they are not at all bright. I am interested in learning what color combo folks like the best, I know the all green is popular and I have seen orage/red and yellow/green combo's as well.

Thanks!

Adding a set of 3rd party night sights will not void your warranty. However, if you return the pistol to Kimber for service, you would have to re-install the factory sights. Kimber would remove the non-factory sights and replace them with original equipment. They can not return an altered firearm to a customer (It's a legal thing).

I posted the URL of the MidwayUSA web site for Kimber Trijicon night sights for Kimber pistols on your introduction post. The sights can be found at:
Trijicon Night Sight Set Kimber 1911 Steel Matte 3-Dot Tritium Green
As I stated on your introduction, I have Trijicon night sights on all of my pistols. They are far from being dim!! In fact, at night I can clearly see the green glow of the Trijicons all the way across my bedroom. That is about 25 feet diagonally across the room. THAT IS BRIGHT!!! The Trijicon sights are two dot rear and a single dot front, green/green sights. They are well worth the cost of the sights. Good Stuff!

Sorry about the highjack, but JUJU asked!!! We aim to please!!

I just talked to Kimber Customer Service. They were surprised too that it failed. There is no obvious damage. They're having me send the slide only in, which is great. Makes it a lot easier to do.

By the time I got off the phone, the instructions were already in my email inbox. They said it would take about two weeks total. I'll get it out today or tomorrow and will keep u posted.

Now that I think about it I'll take some photos in the light and in the dark and post them.

And no problem with "hijacking" the thread. I too want to see people get the info they need. And I've been known to do that once or twice myself.

Front Night Sight Fading Out on New Ultra CDP II

That is totally weird. Tritium is a gas that loses it's power which takes a long time. Half life is 10-12 years. If it escapes, it's gone. I never heard of them fading and going out and coming back. Anyway, just learned something and had to order a set for an old HK I have. Ameriglo makes night sights and they are half the cost of Trijicon. I love Trijicons and have mostly theirs. But here is the kicker. Trijicon supplies Ameriglo with the glass vial gas tubes used in their sights. Just a heads up.
