Go dig thru the rubbish and find the old dusty can of Polishing compound and put the rub on it for a few minutes. That is the great thing about SS frames and slides, easy cosmetic fixes.

My Stainless Pro Raptor has a similar image under the slide stop. It wasn't there when I gave it the first cleaning, so I assume it is just caused by the friction of operation. Doesn't bother me.

You should see the wear on my Super Carry Ultra HD Pretty much anything that rubs on my holster or moves during operation has small shinny stainless showing through the black. I don't care. The guns work perfectly, and that is all I care about.

Virgil at the mothership said I could send it to them and for 125 American bucks they would try to buff it out. No guarantee. I said thank you. I do not hold the seller responsible because you can't see it under the slide stop. I'm sure that's why Kimber went ahead and sent this one out. My luck. I'm goin to go shoot the snot out of this scratched up .....

Don't panic yet. While "color buffing" is hard, I do it several times per week on knives. I have lots of grit levels, but when it comes to brushed stainless fully 90% of the scratches and rub marks can be repaired with Mothers pastes--either Mag Wheel Paste or Billet.

I'd suggest you try Mag Wheel first, it's cheaper. I use a micro-fiber cloth, but on some finishes you can use the tip of an ink eraser.

Lightly--rub lightly!

I have several 1911's all of which have these type of marks-most common in my opinion. There and also scuff marks on the sides of blued grip safeties.

When I showed my wife the Raptor right out of the box, she held it and said "it's just a gun". She's right.

In Montana that could be grounds for a divorce. Maybe she just hates Kimber?

As much as that would bother me also, many 1911's will get that mark under the slide stop and that's just the way it is..

I would try what another member suggested and try the Mother's..
