Series 80 extractor question

I have an Eclipse Pro II that I purchased in 2004. I donít keep a round count but this gun has a lot of rounds fired and on my last range visit a couple of weeks ago I was getting hit in the head with spent cases, not every round but enough to annoy me.
I did a check on the extractor and the adjustment seems ok so I decided to replace the extractor with a WC extractor. This gun is a series 80 and thatís what I ordered. When I remove the extractor it wasnít a series 80 extractor it was a series 70. When I removed the fire pin I didnít have to press down on the firing pin safety, it disassembled just like a 70.
Iím a bit confused as to why, I have never removed the extractor until today. The gun went back to Kimber when a first bought it for FTF/FTE issues and nobody else has worked on this gun. I installed the WC series 80 extractor and everything seems ok. Iíve read you can use a series 80 on a 70 but not the 70 in an 80.
Could anyone tell me why this gun came with a series 70 extractor and why it been functioning for all these years with no issues ?

The extractor shown is what I took out, the box is what went in the gun.

It seems nobody has an answer but I did shoot a 100 rounds of FM 230gr remans though my Eclipse Pro II yesterday and they all fired and ejected but I’m not completely satisfied with where they are ejecting. After I cleaned my Eclipse I removed the extractor and adjusted as per the Wilson Combat video. I just installed the extractor with no adjustments because many reviews said they were able to just drop it in with no additional adjustments. Well I don’t have their luck but it’s very easy to adjust.

One of the best parts about working on your gun is it forces you to get to the range for a function test. The worst part is hearing my wife complain that she had to carry 60lb of ammo in the house after the UPS or Fedex delivery.

You can use both Series 70 and 80 extractors in Kimber II’s since they are not technically a series 80 pistol. The Swartz system that Kimber uses is quite a bit different than the Series 80 that Colt uses.

Thanks for that information, I was very surprised to see a 70 series extractor and if I knew I would have put one back but everything is working fine so all is good.
