New Project - Bayou Bengal

With my 60th birthday coming up, Ms Tejun has agreed to finance a project I've been wanting to do for quite a while. The final outcome will be something that goes "bang" in the form of a 1911, but will most likely end up as some form of a display rather than packed in my range bag on a regular basis. I started ordering items today and think I've found a great source to help get things rolling.

I'll post progress reports down the road as things start showing up and work begins.

Think positive and beyond it being a display piece. It could be a blast to take to the range. Looking forwards to the progression.

...hmmmm, this should be interesting???

...speaking of these "Bayou Bengals" conjures memories of a saloon in Baton Rouge called the "Thirsty Tiger". It's not there anymore but once was a good place to run into female "Bayou Bengals" :-)

Update #1

The foundation for this project is a Fusion Firearms Gov 1911 Kit in 9mm (pic attached from their website). They had the kit on sale for $495. Comes with everything except the grips and magazine. The Fusion folks have been great to work with thus far. They will do some custom engraving in the slide for me before shipping. Ive already purchased the grips. Once I receive the kit, I will assemble it to ensure all is red-to-go and then will disassemble for cerakote.

Id found some good reviews for Fusion on another gun forum. Since this will not be a carry weapon, I figured itd be a perfect start for Project Bayou Bengal.

A great project. Please post as you go with lots of pictures and videos. This should be a fun project. Did you get a serialized or 80% frame?

I have a few MSH from Fusion and they are quality parts at a reasonable price. I have looked at some of their complete 1911s and they are very nice too. I didnt know they sold kits like the one your buying.

Like John I've used Fusion parts to upgrade guns but never new they sold complete kits to build them. I'll be following your progress closely, this could lead to another costly hobby.

I got the serialized frame. Really wanted a custom serial number ( my birth date) but that was not possible with this kit. I was pleasantly surprised that they could do the engraving. Customer service has been fantastic so far.
