Hello Kimber Family, Im having trouble with my current ammo HSM VLDs 168 out of my 300wsm. What is anybody else having success with? Looking to change up manufacturer or grain weights. These 168 shoot super hot. I can shoot 2 rds before the barrel is Hot. thanks in advance fellas!

Welcome to the forum. The first thing I'd suggest is trying some other brands of 168gr stuff. I only shoot my own handloads, but you may want to try the Nosler Trophy Grade ammo, also Hornady and Federal Premium ammo.

The 168gr loading is probably the most popular .30 caliber bullet weight, so you've got beaucoup choices.

Do keep in mind that because of the WSM case design, any hunting load in this caliber will produce excessive barrel heating; one reason this caliber did not find favor with experienced riflemen. That and the lack of quality brass was another contributing factor.

If you intend to hunt elk with the 300 WSM, consider using the 200gr bullet. I've had excellent luck using the Nosler 200gr Partition.
