Commander/ Pro Sized 1911 9mm

Hey guys,

I am looking to reemerge myself into the 1911 world. I currently own only 2 1911's both Kimbers: TLE custom 45 and Micro 9. Now I am looking for an in-between piece in 9mm; thus, the commander or pro sized. I have done some preliminary research on malfunctions with smaller sized and even 9mm calibered 1911s.

What would y'all recommend looking at? Through brand loyalty, I am looking at the newer Aegis Elite Pro in 9mm without optics, but I am looking for other possibilities. Possibly, a Dan Wesson?

Thanks in advance.

I have the Kimber 9mm Pro two tone. 2500 rounds so far without a hiccup. Easy on the wallet too around $720 depending where you shop

You're on the right track.

I own eight Kimber 1911's including an Aegis Elite Custom w/optic in 9mm. It is the tightest Kimber of the lot and shoots lights out with 100% reliability. The Commander/Pro or 4" models are probably the most practical for both carry and range though.

I'll add that virtually ALL my Kimber 1911's have been completely reliable in both .45 and 9mm.

DW and the other high end makers all produce some very nice 1911's, but the Kimbers hold their own in the upper echelon models IMHO and by anecdotal comments on the various 1911 forums.

And welcome back into the "1911 World!"

I've been debating this myself. There really is no solid "jolting chart" for those of us who've had eye surgery. I wish there was a Kimber UC2 that came out in 9x19mm.

Then again I'd have to break it in. But like I've said, I bought the Kimber for defense not for collecting or target shooting.

Still the thought of a pistol size I like with less recoil would sure solve a lot of problems.

Thanks for the warm return. I did favor the stainless or two tone models in regards to price. However, I sweat enough that front strap texturing is a requirement. Rather than hassle with sending a new pistol to get cut on, I would much rather buy one ready to go.

Major requirements are reliability and accuracy. I plan on really shooting this pistol and possibly running some competitions with it. So accuracy is right next to reliability.

I plan on using my experiences combined with these full, commander and sub compact designs to aide my decision making when selecting a high end custom like the Wilson Combats I have been day dreaming of.

I will add I am looking at the FO model, not the OI model with the vortex venom.

Can’t go wrong with Raptor Pro in 9mm. All stainless, front strap texture and it’s good looking too.

Actually prior to being able to purchase firearms due to age, not felonies, I dreamed over the raptor. When I went to purchase one, I ruined my dreams. Aesthetically, the raptor is top of the list; however, I felt it was way too aggressive for everyday carry. As much as I wanted to buy one, I realized changing grips and tinkering with making a more expensive pistol shootable wasn't as valid as upgrading a less expensive (TLE) to fit my requirements and come out cheaper or just even to the raptor.

But thats just my opinion-I didn't even stay at the holiday inn though..

All valid points and completely understand what you’re saying.

I will add this, once you buy one raptor you will want another. No holiday inn stays here either, just speaking from experience lol.

Well, I can definitely say you've reignited my interest as I have multiple tabs open with raptor pros on them.
