March 29, 1911 US Army adopts the .45 semi automatic pistol.

It might have been adopted in 1911, but the ground-pounders didn't get theirs until 1923.

I have seen pictures of the soldiers who chased Poncho Villa back and forth across the Rio Grande, and one soldier had a very worn out 1911.

I always wondered how that happened.
