SRO Accidentally Fired Round While Holstered

This happened in Tampa area.
While leaning against a wall a SROs HOLSTERED weapon accidentally discharged in the school cafeteria striking the floor and then a wall. Fortunately no one was injured.
I canít understand how a gun can do that. There has to be more to this story.

I know some say only idiots can have an AD but I believe it's possible for this to happen to anyone!

I'd like to know what make/model of gun he was carrying.

I was wondering the same thing as I heard this news. I too, am thinking he may have been re-positioning the gun as this happened causing the AD.

You can bet there's more to the story. Properly working firearms properly holstered don't go bang all by themselves.

As far as only "idiots" have ADs... Generally it's more about simple disciplines than intelligence or high level of skill.

This incident will likely be exploited as if guns just fire all by themselves. Translated into anti-gun language = Guns are simply too dangerous to have around children.

That’s exactly what’s happening Phil. Right now in the Florida Senate there is debate on allowing teachers to carry in schools. The Democrats are continuing to bring up this incident as an example of their aversion to allowing guns in schools. There has been no mention of what type of gun it was.

It would really help to know exactly which model of Sig SAUER 9 mm pistol he was carrying.
Like was it a single action with the safety not engaged or perhaps a single/double that had not been decocked?

Media report the correct model? Surely you jest. I'm amazed it was reported as anything other than a Glock.

Have not seen anything 'official' on this story, but to me it sure sounds like yet another Glock AD incident.

We had a Glock AD here a few years ago; a fellow got into his car on the passenger side while his wife drove. Upon getting in, his "Fruit of the Loom" holster (nylon/cordura/el cheapo) caught on the seat belt holder, caught the trigger and BOOM! Shot right through his arse and down into his calf. That had to hurt.

Never heard of this happening with a single action 1911.....'cause it can't!

(Knock on wood or whatever, but I've carried a 1911 since 1965 and have never ((yet)) had an AD.)
