Kimpro 2 finish

Hi,
I was going to purchase a full size super carry HD. It's used but never was fired. I was wondering if
There's an issue with the kimpro2 finish flaking off the stainless guns?
Has Kimber made any improvements with there finishing process?

TIA,
Bob

First, welcome to the forum. I carry a Kimber stainless pro carry everyday. It does show a little holster wear but no flaking. The finish is pretty tough in my opinion.

Wink Hey Ya'll!!!

Welcome to the forum from beautiful downtown Monroe, Georgia!!!
Monroe Roads.JPG

I have never had a Kim Pro finished pistol. I've had Custom Stainless II, which does not wear at all and a matte black Pro Carry II which shows normal carry wear. I do not recall ever reading any complaints about Kim Pro 2 finish ever flaking off. There have been a few reports of showing holster wear, but not flaking. Wish I could be of more assistance.

Congrats on your pending purchase of the Super Carry HD. That is a really nice pistol. Enjoy it. If there comes a time when you encounter an issue with the finish, contact Kimber Customer Service. I am sure they will take care of it and return you pistol in good as new condition. Kimber does stand behind what they make!

Shoot straight, keep 'em in the black and be safe. Please post pictures of your Super Carry and a range report after your first trip to the range. Looking forward to it!!

Welcome from Northern Illinois. I also have a few Kimber carry pistols in the Kimpro finish and have had no problems with flaking. I don't even think any show real hard wear at this point.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

Hi Bob, all painted gun finishes will wear. The latest Kimber finish is very nice and even, will last a life time when only occasionally used at the range and holsterd. But if you use it often and do lots of presentation from the holster it will show wear on the high points. This is true for my Wilson and Ed Browns also, if you use guns the way they are intended to be used the finish will wear, you will get dings and scratches. Think of it as added character, your own persanol touches. Just like buying a new truck, you know your gonna scratch the bed and or tailgate. So just grab a hammer and get it over with so you can stop worrying about it.

Guns that are used, especially carried guns, are going to show wear. No big deal to me.

My Ultra Tac2 had major holster wear after 2 1/2 months of carry. Most of the wear was towards the front of the slide. One alarming thing is that the middle part of the slide was stuck to the leather holster and finished flaked off when I took the gun out. I decided I was going to polish the whole slide with some Flitz polish and now looks like a dark gunmetal finish. It looks much better now but i was disappointed how fragile the kimpro 2 finish was.

Unfortunately the KimPro finish has always been Kimbers weak spot.
