SIS Pro

Just recently acquired a mint almost new condition one. I searched and it showed that this model was designed for the LAPD and last manufactured in 2010. This is my 1st 1911 platform and will replace my trusty SW Shield as my CCW. Would appreciate inputs on this particular model, both pros and cons as well as suggestion for ammo to practice with and self-defense. Lastly, where can I get the take down tool to hold the recoil spring? Thank you

That was a very popular gun when Kimber put it out, the only negative thing I can remember hearing about it was that the slide could be a little slippery because of the custom SS serrations.
Since it will be a carry gun, I'd want flush fitting mags(at least a couple)Kimber tac mags and CMC match grade are very good. Your Wilson and Tripp mags are longer and will hang out the bottom of your gun, making it print more under your shirt.
Any quality FMJ round nose will work for training/practice, lots of good carry ammo, I recommend finding one your gun likes and sticking with it. My department issues Gold dot for our Glocks, but I carry Golden Saber in my 1911s for the simple fact that I know it functions great in all my different 1911s.
Should be able to buy the little tool from Kimber, but a paper clip or other thick sturdy wire type metal will work. You can also search Utube for vids showing you how to disasemble without the tool.
Congrats on the new gun, the SIS is a darn good looking one.

Welcome to the forum from Cardinal Nation...

Here's the link for the "L" tool from Kimber...Or as TankGunner suggested, a thick paperclip will work..

Here's the perfect tool for RSA retention during take-down, highly recommended: Kimber 3" Ultra II Teardown tools - S & L (Combo Kit)

NDZ makes the 4in tool also for the SIS Pro that he has. .

Also the Wilson Flatwire is great to use...

Welcome form Northern Illinois, and you will enjoy that SIS. As others have mentioned, lots of good information in the Gunsmith section, but I can highly recommend the Wilson Flatwire solution, which removes the need for the 'tool'.

I will second the Wilson Flat Recoil-I have one on my Pro Carry HD and it works well-I will eventually replace the one in my Pro Aegis also-when I have 50 bucks that doesn't have to be used for food.SIS is a very nice Kimber model-congrats

Thank you Krunchnik....this is my 1st 1911 platform. Been dreaming of owning a Kimber but the cost is prohibitive to me until I got this at almost a windfall price from a co-worker. Plan to change the trigger to the skeleton type but I guess I'll get the magazine 1st.

Count me in on this recommendation, both my Super Carry Pro HD and CDP Pro run the Wilson flatwire recoil system. Never going back to the round spring in a Pro size Kimber.
