Cracked MSH.

Was able to get my new to me Kimber Aegis in 9mm to the gunsmith this morning to have it cleaned and safety checked. He just called me and said that he found that the main spring housing was cracked. Oh well.
Said he didn’t have one like it but that he is putting on one he had with a mag well on a lend lease program to see if I like it or not. I get to keep it for awhile to test it out for free, just send him a check if I decide to keep it. If I don’t like it I’ll get a replacement and take it back to him and he’ll make it original again.
What a guy.

Everybody complains about the MSH on Kimbers but this is the first case I've ever heard of one cracking. I wonder if it came from the factory cracked (as a factory defect) or it cracked when the gunsmith tried to remove it.

In any case I'd contact Kimbers customer service and tell them about the problem. They'll probably mail you a new one.

I'm with Chuck. There's not much to go wrong with an injection molded chunk of plastic. Really, the cost of postage will set Kimber back more than the cost of the MSH.

I removed my MSH on my Raptor a few times because the one I purchased wouldn’t fit. The plastic did get screwed up a bit where the pin goes through to hold the mainspring. This was my fault not the plastic MSH. The gun still functioned fine with that MSH.

The concept of plastic MSH used to bother me, but then I thought about where most of my sweaty skin touches the pistol -- the MSH! So I've decided it's pretty clever, and besides, I've never heard on one breaking before.

Update:
I picked up the gun this morning. He had hand fitted a blued mag well, new grips to include bushings screws and o-rings , told me to take it and use it for awhile and if I liked the changes to write him a check. The gun looked so sexy I wrote him a check on the spot.
Iíve tried to get a picture of the crack but I canít. Itís at the bottom and if you push a punch into the pin hole you can clearly see a crack at the bottom running all the way across.
I called Kimber and was told the gun was built in 2014 and even though I bought it used they are sending me a new MSH.
Say what you will about Kimber Customer Service but this is the second time Iíve used them and both times I was very satisfied.
A quick pic of the gun, I just included the MSH for......?

He also adjusted the pre-travel on the trigger for me, must of had an inch before I felt any resistance.
If I told you what he charged me all of you would be sending him work and I’d never be able to use him again.
As an example though, last year he changed out my sights while I waited and charged me $20.00.
