Grouping

Hi I have a model 89 bgr 280 cal. I was going to use it on a Elk hunt and while I was zeroing in I could not get the rifle to group it was all over the place. Changed ammo and gr used Hornady 185 gr, federal premium 150 gr and Winchester 160 gr silvertip and nothing worked. This is a original Kimber built in Oregon before moving someone told me it might be a barrel issue if so does anyone know how I might correct this? Thanks

Have you checked to make sure the scope is on tight and correct?

Could be a myriad of issues. Are you the original owner? Has the crown been checked? Action screws not over tightened to tweak the action? Barrel really clean?

If that and the optics are not the issue, it may very well be the bedding or lack of same. Does the barrel touch the forearm anywhere? Recoil lug bearing correctly in it's mortise? Action not stressed and mated properly with the stock bedding?

If none of the above applies, then I'd wager it's time for a call to the Mothership for further guidance. Their CS will surely sort it out for you. All my experience with them has been very positive.

Hello khs1159, sounds kinda like the issues I had (still have) with mine, a .270 BGR. First problem was it was stringing shots from the bottom of the target to the top, found out the stock was cracked from the trigger guard screw through to the magazine opening. Had that acraglased and the bedding done. Now it shoots all the high grade Federal Premium ammo like well best described as a buckshot pattern. If you want to see targets let me know. The only time it really semed to be trying to group nice was with Federal Premium ammo with the 140 gr. Bearclaw bullet. When I get some money to spend on it I might take it to Penrod Precision and have him look it over, I’m guessing the barrel is knackered up or something is totally not lined up right. Hope you get yours figured out. Phil.
