New Camp Guard 10

After decades of shooting, hunting, and concealed carry, this is my first 1911. I was/am a .357 revolver guy at heart, but migrated to one of the plastic frame double stack 10mm's a while back for my woods carry gun. Its been a good gun, simple and dependable, but it never felt completely comfortable in my hand. I've shot friends 1911's in the past, but never really considered one for my carry gun before. Until I found the specs for this one.... I was eyeing one of the 10mm 3rd gen Smiths on an auction site, and thought I'd compare it to similary priced new guns, when I found the Camp Guard. It checked all the boxes that interest me for a woods and/or concealed carry gun. All stainless, night sights, single stack grip comfort, round heel, no sharp edges, and no glare finish. So here we are! I have 500 rounds of Winchester white box ammo to put through it in the next few weeks, I'll report back on it...

Nice looking gun, I have a soft spot for round butt Kimbers.

Ya, I'm with Chuck43; nothing like a round butt. Looks good, doesnt dig into your side and feels good in your hand. I was ready to have a smith give me the rounded heal treatment for my long slide, but this forum put me on to a Stan Chen magwell. In 460 Rowland it will be my occasional deer hunter in our "Live Free or Die" state.

Very nice. My buddy has one, it runs great and he has taken two whitetail bucks with it as well.

Ah yes, round butts...I don't have anything 10mm but I'm 100% certain the Camp Guard will make a fine pistol and an even greater first 1911.

So I took it to the range and put the first 100 through it today. No issues or problems at all, everything cycled perfectly. I need some practice with the thinner grip though, I think I'm squeezing to hard, I'm shooting a little low and left with it. New gun, new learning curve...

Enjoy the learning process. I'm still learning my Eclipse Custom II 10mm. There are great loads out there for specific uses.
