Trijicon RMR Mount Co-witness with night sights

I was on the fence about putting a MRD on the 460 long slide and then started to think about setting up a co-witness sight system. Stumbled on the Trijicon red dot mounting plate with night sights. The whole co-witness thing seems like the best of all worlds. The slide machining cost, mount and MRD are going to add-up quickly, but this is seems like the ideal setup for hunting and range plinking. Who has a co-witness setup and what are your thoughts?
Also, I wonder what other red dots can be used with the Trijicon mount. Their MRD is going to bust my budget. Ya, it may be a fine red dot, but I want some green-backs left over for ammo, bourbon and cigars.

Not too long ago, I was not a fan of optics on a handgun. That all changed when I got my Kimber Aegis Elite Custom (OI). Factory installed Vortex Venom 6 MOA with co-witness irons. After a factory recall to address screws shearing off on some pistols, the Mothership machined a recoil lug mortise in the slide and a new mount with the recoil lug machined into the sight base....nice.

Best of both worlds, and now I'm a solid convert for these sights. Not sure I'd want one on my EDC, but for range or hunting, no equal.

Not the exact setup you're considering, but IMO, the principal is very sound. In the end, if you do it right, you'll have enough left over for ammo and that refreshment you mentioned.

Hmm, I didn't even consider the one they sell in the Kimber Shop. Now if they would only stock the item! I also get more choices with the Kimber mount. I think Holosun is the only alternative on the Trijicon mount. I wonder if Kimber gets them from someone else?

Not exactly the same as your doing but I have a Green Dot Holosun on my Ruger MK III and I really like it.

The Holosun products look like a good perfomance/value red dot. How has yours hold up, any issues? They have a 65moa ring combined with a 2moa dot that seems like a great setup for hunting.

Not had it setup very long and not shot it much yet. Should be fine, since it's just .22lr. I have Holosun's on the AR's and they are doing fine. My old eyes can see the green really well.
