Kimber LW red dot mount

I'm Wanting to install a red dot reflex sight on my LW stainless.
Any ideas what mounting plate will work and where to get it??

Not sure how much this will help but here goes.
What brand red dot optic do you want?
It may have been easier to buy the Stainless LW that came with a Vortex Venom. Vortex is what Kimber is using.
I guess it depends on which brand optic you want to purchase. Not sure if you send it into Kimber if they will mill the slide for the optic.
Lots of custom gun shops can do the milling, maybe even just good shops. You would need to find one that does the brand you want.

Pretty sure a handful of members have had slides milled for optic. Maybe they will offer some tips.

I know if I was going to do it, I would want it milled so a Holosun Green dot optic could be mounted.

It sounds like you're thinking about removing the rear sight, installing an optic mounting plate and be done......not.

If you just use a mounting plate in the dovetail, the optic will be silly-high on the gun. This is why most have the slide milled for the optic to sit lower on/in the slide and not look like a growth that has grown on the pistol somehow.

If you want to do it right (and we all do), contact a smith familiar with the 1911 platform and go from there. You will also want to consider changing the iron sights to co-witness with the optic (suppressor-height sights). My Kimber Aegis Elite Custom has the Vortex Venom 6 MOA optic that has been milled into the slide with a recoil lug for the optic by Kimber. It's now nice and low on the gun and rock-solid. The irons are co-witnessed to the Venom, and on the range, it really shines.

This sight system has really made a believer out of me.

+1 what Rick in Oregon said: do it right, have the slide milled and do a co-witness. I have a 6" stainless Target set up for hunting. I budgeted for 460 Rowland conversion and Vortex MRD. EGW sells a plate for Vortex that fit my adjustable rear sights so with a sight pusher it was an easy conversion. I looked at the co-witness, wanted it, but my wallet didn't agree. Also the 6" length plus compensator is like trying to conceal a Howitzer, so I wasn't that concerned about it being low profile or concealable since it was a dedicated hunting rig. You'll be very happy with the final product if you invest in milling. Sorry no pics, its at the smith having bullet proof ambi installed.
