Moving.... What a PITA

Since all this COVID crap has been going on, we’ve determined Hemphill Texas is not such a bad place to live. With that revelation, we found a nice (newer) home about a mile from our other lake house and took the plunge in buying it. This is now where we will live when we both finally retire. 9 acres, with 200’ of waterfront. We moved in about a week before hurricane Laura paid us a visit.. what a pucker factor that was 🙈. Today I moved most of my firearm related stuff from Houston. My Liberty Franklin will stay with the Townhouse as it appears they moved it in before all the trim work was done. Can’t get it out without removing door frame.

So I bought a new safe (actually 2) from Tractor Supply. I’d bought one a month or so ago and now have all my vintage rimfire rifles in it. The other one is on a pallet on my back patio.

Today I transported most of my firearms and some ammo. Have two young whipersnappers lined up to help move the safe in to my downstairs office. Hopefully all that goes well.

I’ve been bringing some firearms and ammo with me on prior trips. I’ve got several cabinets stocked with the ammo and guns as a staging area.

I hate moving but eventually things should get lines out. I hate rummaging through boxes trying to find something.

Sounds like you're on a good track with it anyway. I hate moving so much that we spent over a decade in a house we hated because we dreaded moving so much. Which, in retrospect, was probably a mistake, but better late than never. We know some people who have bought and sold houses and moved during covid, and they had some real horror stories because it's all such a PITA now. On the other hand, oh, the interest rates! It's a good time to borrow for a house for sure.

Amen, Brother Tejun, you're preaching to the choir. I moved on Sept 1 and am still dealing with boxes, never again.

9 acres and 200’ of waterfront would take lot of the PIA out of moving for me.
Congratulations.

I keep saying I have one more move in me. My back keeps reminding me that the last one darn near killed me.

One of the biggest pains is that a lot of “stuff” is in a box and I can’t find what I need when I need it ! It took about 6 weeks to get 10 yrs of accumulation moved from the old lakehouse to the new one. We just about have our townhouse in Houston ready to put on the market and then we’ll start the moving cycle again

Yea, this place was too hard to pass up. We knew the owners and they built this place as their dream home. Didn’t cut any corners. They packaged up a sweet deal for sure. Came with two tractors, barn full of three point accessories, a bucket truck with 50’ boom, jet ski, log splitter and I’m still finding stuff in some of the barns.

That's exactly the problem I'm having.

Congrats on the new digs...sounds most excellent. I'm envious.

We'd love to move too. Been in the same house now for 35 years, and as the once nifty neighborhood now has rentals, it's not so nifty any more. But now I'm into "geezerhood" and the 35 year accumulation of crap I've accumulated, along with my bogus back would make moving a complete nightmare. Then there's the issue of the 1,000 lb. gun safe......

Stuck, but still smiling!
