Meprolight night sight install

I recently purchased tritium sights for my Custom II and when the gunsmith went to install them he said the front sights was milled a few thousands to small so he had to bend the dovetail inward with a mallet to make it tight enough for the front sight to not move. Is this common? And will this stay tight or will it throw off my shots ? Any info would be helpful, thank!!

You have paid the man to do the job. It sounds to me like he did the right thing to set the sight in place. However,if the sight does not hold in place when shooting, take it back to him and have him make it good. He needs to stand by his work. Make sure you hang onto your receipt!!

Good luck and good shooting. Be safe!!

I hate hearing stories like this. My preference is, "if you run into a problem, call me." The we will decide together what I want done. Hope this gunsmith is a good guy and stands by his work.

A lot of after market 1911 accessories require "some fitting" Whether your gunsmith's technique is proper or not.....I don't know. Hopefully it works out for you!
