Value of a Pre Series II 1911....need help!

Hey guys first post here and I need your help. I have a line on a Pre-series II Kimber Classic Custom 1911 that was made in Yonkers, NY and it has a serial number of K009985. I think it was made in 1997ish. In either case, it has less than 500 rounds through it, has the original case and is in excellent shape other than some fading of the blueing on the slide (it's not worn).

I can pick this 1911 up for 700 bucks and I want to know if that's a fair price etc.

Thanks!

IMO, as long as it was NOT produced during the external extractor era, 700 would be OK but 600 would be even better. Some of those may be fine, I just don't care for them.

The only models I am aware of that are getting some collector interest are the SIS models made from 2007-2010.

Thanks...it's not an external extractor model. It's between this and a new Stainless II that they have listed for 849 at my local shop, hehe. I thought these early models were regarded as being built better?

Well, I am a little biased but I think all Kimber's have been built well. This is just me but I love Stainless pistols so I would probably add 149 dollars to the 700 and buy the new Stainless. Main difference is the pre-II model had the 70' Series safety.

I purchased the same gun, factory box and papers last year that had less then 50 rounds through it for $650.00. The guy gave me what was left of the original box of ammo he bought with the gun. If it's in good shape I'd go for it.
