Doc's "New" Kimber Range Report...

Evening everyone! As you know on yesterday I bought my very first 1911 EVER...the Kimber Super Carry Pro. I took it to the range today and ran 300 Winchester 230 gr FMJ ammo through it along with 20 rounds of Winchester PDX1 Defender HP's 230 gr as a part of it's break in period. I believe it's broke in now after all of that! I must say that I was very impressed by my new addition's instant accuracy right out of the box and the smoothness in which it shot. It's a very different feel from my polymers. BIG difference! WOW! And that's WOW spelled backwards!

I did however, have few FTF's towards the end of the session. Mostly due to 1st, my not lubbing the gun BEFORE my range session as stated in the manual and 2nd, by my not slapping that magazine in tightly. As a result, one round got jammed pretty tightly and myself and a safety officer had a time getting it out of there but managed to do so. I fired the last few rounds with ease. Needless to say, the piece was hot...very hot! But, I wanted to put pressure on it today in order to test its durability and reliability if it's going to be my new CCW. Over all, my experience with it was GREAT!! And because of today's range time I am completely sold on KIMBER and the 1911's being my brand of choice going forward. Here are a few pics from today of the ammo, a target and the Kimber back home cleaned and ready to go. Don't mind my Glock 19 in the picture...I always keep a loaded piece near by for home defense...

P.S. Why didn't ya'll warn a brother about the Kimber's complex take down and reassembling nightmare? Maaaan! It took me awhile to get it back together. Woooo!

Nice range report Doc, when you start approaching 800 rounds and it's time to change the recoil spring I suggest you look at the Wilson Combat Flat Wire Spring Kit. Your gun will run smoother with it and you'll no longer need that "L" to break the gun down again. As an added bonus the new spring will last between 8,000 and 10,000 rounds.

Outstanding Doc! Good job on your first 1911 range report. A good lube job is very important as you found out.

Hey, Doc. Before you go to the range, be careful how to take down and assemble the 1911. It's different from the Poly guns you are used to.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. LOL

Anyway, glad you enjoyed the experience. Since acquiring my 1911s I almost never shoot the Glocks any more. The trigger alone is enough to keep me, but the over-all feel is vastly superior to the Poly guns, IMO.
