Defender barrel in Ultra?

I have purchased apparently a very early srs 1 Ultra parts kit with a belled barrel not like current production; I have heard that current style is an improvement. I know you need a picture to really tell, but can't upload one.
That being said, I also own a Colt Defender barrel of like length;
Will it work in the Kimber slide? It seems I cannot purchase a current-style barrel.
Thanks, J

I do not know the answer to that question. Sorry. For liability reasons you may not get an answer from anyone in here. Perhaps Kimber will answer your question, though they usually insist everything be stock or it's out of their hands.

First, welcome to the forum. Call Kimber, they should be able to help you, otherwise, consult a qualified gunsmith.

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois J Marx, you can call Kimber but they will tell you NO! Your best bet would be to take it to a qualified gunsmith.

A third welcome from Ohio. The two pistols are very similar but I can't say that the parts are interchangeable.

In answer to your question, yes, the Defender barrel should work in your Ultra. If you are not satisfied with the performance of the Colt barrel, you can try Storm Lake Barrels:

StormLake | Build Your Barrel

Storm Lake makes excellent after market match grade barrels. They shoot quite well! I picked up a 5" ported Storm Lake .40 S&W to 9mm conversion barrel for my Smith and Wesson M&P40. As you can see from the attached 15 yard target, it will shoot....damn well!! I can now feed my M&P40 cheaper 9mm ammo. It doesn't miss a lick!!

Another choice would be Bar-Sto Barrels:

Note that the Kimber Ultra Carry is the 10th section down from the top. You can also get extended and threaded barrels or extended and ported. My Storm Lake barrel is extended and ported. I think it looks pretty cool!!

Thanks to all who replied; I undersstand your liability concerns. Really, I do. (Frankenstein lives and rules...)
I didn't know Bar-sto was doing 3" barrels.
I have a Storm Lake OM barrel and nothing but good things to say about it.
"Build your barrel" won't let me do one shorter than an OM though
Nowlin also does one with a ramp.
Thanks, J
