Thinking about buying a Kimber 22 conversion kit. What do you all think about them. Are they worth the money ? Thanks

Chuck and Zoomy have the kit and love them. I been thinking about buying one myself. I think they can be a little ammo sensitive. The .22 kit is making more sense now that .22lr ammo is getting easier to get now.

Yeah I heard from somewhere you have to use CCI mini mag and I was wondering if that is correct.

I have both of the Kimber .22 conversion kits the 3"-4" and the 4"-5" and really like them. The only requirement is high velocity ammo, generally 1200fps and up, it doesn't have to be CCI mini mags. The biggest thrill for my grandsons is when I put the slide on my EDC SCP and let them shoot it.

I love my conversion kit so much, I purchased a Ruger to install it on. Since my Ruger is now dedicated for the conversion, I changed the main spring to a lighter spring. It will shoot any high velocity ammo.

Did you change the main spring or recoil spring? It's the recoil spring that will effect the ammo required to cycle the slide.

The conversion kit is a great addition for owners of Kimber 45's. I think the purpose is really to be able to practice with the gun you are used to shooting, same grips, same trigger, etc, without spending the money on the more costly centerfire ammo.

With that being said it also has proved to me to be a great, accurate, jam-free system when shooting high velocity .22 LR.. The ease of changing only the slide assembly and magazine makes it quick and simple to go from .45 to .22 in seconds at the range. The addition of GSG magazines that lock back the slide on last round and easy loading has made my experience with the conversion kit even more satisfying.

What Kimber has done is to make a conversion kit that is simple to swap out and works with existing frame and springs. They put a very light weight aluminum slide with a low pound recoil spring with just enough spring resistance to load the next round and return to battery. On the other hand the unbalance of the mainspring now firing rimfire is a pretty heavy resistance to the cycle. Therefore the added blowback force of high velocity rounds seem to better complete the cycle against the resistance where some standard velocity or sub-sonic rounds may not. I know of people who have changed the mainspring to a lighter weight spring and have had great success in shooting SV bulk pack ammo. I personally think that making a dedicated .22 out of my $1200 gun + $300 conversion kit makes no sense at all. So for me shooting high quality, high velocity ammo that works flawlessly is my answer. Looking at .22LR being more available than just a few months ago I have found HV CCI mini-mags not any more expensive or harder to find than the other SV rounds. I recently just ordered 1700 mini-mags for the same price of the standard velocity so it wouldn't make sense to shoot SV even if it did cycle 100%.
Is the conversion kit worth it? To me it is.

Does anyone offer a higher capacity magazine than the 10 rounder?
