The Barge, strange demographics.

One of the former cafe' baristas came to my house yesterday to buy a new polished Kershaw. While there, I gave her a new Barge. I suggested she carry that to work (at a fast food mac n' cheese place, believe it or not) because it functions and looks more as a "tool."

She was happy with it. But here's the strange thing, just how that knife is marketed.

I sell/give most of mine to women, and for a while I carried one myself until a client got it. But strangely, there's another segment that seems interested in that knife.

I saw an advertisement in a prepper magazine. They showed some burly dude stripping wood with one. And yes, you can push that knife well over 500,000 grit. And it's one of those knives where the designers got everything right.

Now, the women like the fact they can pry open stuff--like those huge copper staples on large cardboard boxes. Guys use the same feature for paint cans.

Out of the last shipment I have one left. I don't need one, but I'm thinking of keeping it. Everyone loves theirs, and I liked my old one.

...yikes, as if we need another knife here...

For those not familiar with the Kershaw Barge.

They used to say that everyone should have a Buck 110, and as a boy, I did.

Now I think everyone should have a Barge. Heck, they're cheap enough so you could have several stashed around your house and vehicle.

I'll have to look into getting one. I've carried a Buck 110 for 35 years, old habits are hard to break.

This morning I carried three, and it wasn't the first time.

I carried the 2-Stage Compact for the "edge." Anyone stupid enough to take on that knife deserves the wrath he has invoked.

I also had that Kizer folder. I haven't cut a thing with it and I was hoping to open an envelope, a box, a pack of chewing gum, a mugger, anything...

Then there was that new Protech automatic. Just a "fending" device, hope it never gets used...

(Yeah, yeah, and I had the Kimber and an Uzi pen).

Been carrying a Kershaw for about 12 years. May not be "top of the line" knife, but they take/hold a good edge, even with my crude sharpening tools.

What are you using? Perhaps it's not your technique, but the stone.

The Barge is the best tool knife in the world. I have used my here in Florida for surf fishing for over a year and in that time the salt water has done little except darken the color of the steel. I clean it with baking soda and a tooth brush and back to fishing it goes. Best money you will ever spend on a knife!
