It grew on me, the Ruger/CRKT Compact.

Originally I bought the full-size 2-Stage and the Compact. The knives were solid, the bevels were terrible.

I phutzed with the big one until I got it polished, straight and true--then decided I didn't need a mercenary's knife, but a guy that lives in the boonies might love it. So I got a padded envelope and shipped it to a man Whose Name We Do Not Speak. We're both happy now.

But I had a Compact, so I slapped a kirinaga edge on the thing and looked at the knife like it earned 3rd Place. But I broke it in, used a touch of Sentry Solutions Tuf-Glide on the pivot (I never loosen them) and it turned into a useful flipper.

Then over the last few weeks, I've been carrying it. I'd stick a Protech switchblade in my right front pocket, and the Compact in my jacket and then found myself going first to the Compact.

I just checked the prices, and they now set it at 33 bucks. Yeah, yeah, I know I'll spend most of the day truing up four bevels for a sandwich and mugger knife, but something about this ugly duckling attracts me

If nothing else, the tanto bevel will puncture anything.

The big version was not for me, but the new owner loves it. Well, I have a UC2 pistol, so it seems logical to have a Compact knife.

Chico, post some pictures of these knives and if or when you no longer want them let us know. I'm sure there are guys on the forum that would be interested in buying them from you.

Yes , I was looking at that knife myself but I and most people don't have the talent you have. So how about some pictures and definitely let us know if you get tired of it. How about a couple of how to videos for us under educated folks. Thank you sir I have been reading your posts and you are definitely talented.

I'll have to take a picture of it and post it later. I have pictures of a polished Compact I did for a client, but that defeats the purpose of showing you my knife.

Pictures to follow.

I got a warning from Blue Ridge that shipping before Christmas ends on 12-18-17 to ensure delivery.

These Compacts are cheap and durable, so I bought two more. I rotated my EDCs, and now have a ZT0909 as my right front pocket knife. Haven't cut a thing with it, it's just comforting.

I also bought some Barges and a small folder for minor jobs.

But that's the problem with this job. Buy knives, fix them, polish them, look forward to using them, and greedy clients take them...

Just bought one of the ruger knives, for the I said what the heck. I'll play with it and if I ruin it I won't be out that much. Just have to wait for it and see what it looks like. Then get some stones and play. I'll consider it a learning experience.

This is my Compact with the kirinaga edge. Toothy, but sharp.

Considering why the Japanese created the tanto tip, I've decided to polish the front edge. The tip is like a needle anyhow, and whole object of such a tip was to ease penetration.

Besides, I'm polishing Chuck's knife now, and the polishes are out...

BTW, if you expand the picture of the client's knife, you'll see why I kept working on it. There is a "moon" shaped detail that formed between the edges from how the blade blank was shaped.

I "nibbled" it off before final polishing. Usually I post the date of the finished work. I'll dig around and see if I can find that shot.
