Just call me "Dr. Tourist."

My latest order has not been delivered and might not be here until the end of the week. I do have a new CRKT 'DAKTYL' which is technically a folding scalpel. It's sharp already by community standards.

If I'm going to be trapped here while my wife works (I can be out of the house for about two hours before the little dog freaks) I just might get out the 15K and 30K stones and just go crazy.

Oh, one weird point. The nomenclature says the scalpel has a beer bottle opener, and I couldn't find out how it worked. Then I saw a picture in a magazine, and yes, it will open a bottle of beer...

Something about that knife turns me off, I don't know exactly what it is but the minute I saw it I said NO!

You can use any title you want, Herr Doktor, as long as you don't run around expecting us to turn our heads and cough.

That knife looks like the sort that, if it didn't cut you while it's in your pocket, just might break when you're hacking away at something that needs hacking. Either way, you'll be leaking the red stuff.

Beauty is as beauty does. The blade folds sideways into the "handle." It's all stainless steel so an EMT could autoclave it.

My guess is that the edge is around 10 to 12 degrees. And yes, I was thinking slurry...

10 to 12? Yikes! I did one of the kitchen knives down to 15. After going down that low, stumpy angles just aren't as gratifying any more.

When the knife folds, there are no exposed edges. And for an EMT, he/she could carry this thing easily in a pocket protector.

It can cut through leather to remove a boot from a broken ankle, dig out shrapnel, even do a tracheotomy.

I've been carrying mine to the gym. It's all stainless, and it won't rust.

Additionally, my doctor works out there, and if he needs an edge to rescue a member, I have something sharper than a Number 10 scalpel.

When you work with knives everyday, it's the useful ones--ugly or not--that impress you.

I understand what you're saying and it all sounds good but it still doesn't appeal to me.

I have one of those box cutters with replaceable blades. Sometimes you get lucky and a sharp blade is found.

This little knife is light in weight, I can polish it off the graph, and they are cheap. If a nurse wants it, she can have it--with life sharp.

...and lots of my friends drink beer, believe it or not...
