Mammoth Ivory knife Scales

While surfing around the inter-web I came across a knife builder supply site that had some good stuff to ogle over. Turns out they are right here in Houston and not too far from me. Went there this morning and found some really nice blanks made from Mammoth Ivory. I picked up this set to put on a Buck 112. Just need to find a good donor knife to install them on.

What kind of tools do you need to work with mammoth ivory? I'm asking because the mammoth ivory grips I got for my Colt feels like they are made of stone. So I'm wondering do you use; stone cutting tools or woodworking tools?

Good question that Iíll have to do some research on. I made a pattern from the 112 I just bought and I will not have to do much cutting at all. Hoping my band saw with a fine blade will work to get the cut close and final will be done with sanding via belt sander or by hand. Let me know if you come across any good info.

Howdy Chico !!
It's stuck in my project backlog right now. I've found a Buck 112 donor knife that I will be using. I also plan to change the blade using a blade from a Buck 482 that has a Thumbstud. I don't like the aftermarket thumbstuds.
