Another Gun & Knife Show Score

Was cruising through the tables at a gunshot this past weekend. Mostly looking for interesting (older) lever action rifles but also looking at knives. Came across one vendor that had a lot of cheaper knives and was just about to walk off to next table when I saw a familiar looking butt section of a knife in a cheap looking sheath. Picked it up and turns out to be a Buck 112 with the auto conversion. Had a price tag of $45. I offered the guy $35 without the sheath and he studied a while the said ok. Nice addition to my growing Buck collection !!

You stole that knife man. There's a lot of custom work done on that. How does it operate?

That's some fancy detail. Did it come from the factory like that?

The gold button that actuates the blade sits flush with the scales so no worries about opening accidentally. The actuation is swift and smooth just like the factory 112 I have.

I'm not sure if Buck does custom work like that or not. I had found a site that offered the option of converting your standard 112/110 to auto opening when I was looking around a while back. I'm not sure if the guy knew it was an auto.... when he was thinking over my offer, he kept opening it up manually.

It can open manually? Does the blade have the thumb nail groove?

Yes, the blade dies have the thumbnail groove. The guy was fiddling with it like he was trying to manually open but never fully opened it and Iíve not tried to manually open yet (meant to this morning but forgot to). I came across a YouTube last night that featured a 110 that had an auto conversion done that could also be opened manually (called it a double action). Iíll check mine this evening.

I checked the knife last night and it DOES open manually in addition to the auto opening function. Attaching a pic of the blade which has a notch instead of a countersunk slot like my other 112.

Tejun, you lucky duck! You must have made the score of the week!

I prefer the 112 model, myself. A few months ago I got the chance to score two factory made 112 automatics. They are terrific, solid knives with a good action.

However, unlike you, I paid about 120 per each!

Yea, it was a good score for sure, but you got a dang good deal yourself. I bought a 112 Auto back in May and paid $199. I knew I could find one cheaper if I surfed the interweb enough, but I was in a brick & mortar knife shop and the young lady trying to sell it to me was easy on the eyes, as well as very knowledgeable about knives

I like to support small shops as much as possible, its great to be able to hold something before you buy it !!
