I had to finally admit that I'm old. After numerous serious injuries from Vietnam, crushed ankle, broken back from a plane crash, bike and car crashes, aneurysm surgeries, hip replacement.....you get the idea.
So with the hip replacement, sometimes it's a bitch to get around when the other 'good' hip is on the fritz, so the logical choice was a custom cane for 'those days'. Enter Burger Canes in South Africa who fabricates superlative quality sword canes for the discriminating wounded.
Carbon fiber sheath, 440 Stainless steel blade, sharpened both edges, stainless hardware, these disguise perfectly when out in public but are ready for instant deployment.
I chose the ergonomic handle in exotic African hardwood, but they also offer warthog tusk and other exotics, along with custom engraving.
Some of my family fought with the French resistance during WWII, so I had their motto engraved on my blade. It translates to "We Are Defiant".
The workmanship, design and materials are all first-rate, along with attention to detail. When putting the blade back in its sheath, you can hear the precise 'click' as the two units lock up with exacting precision between all parts.
The canes are shipped in a nice Cordura padded slip-case for transport and storage....a nice touch.
Without even deploying the hidden blade, the cane itself seems like a reasonable tool for keeping undesirables at arms length prior to going to Condition Red.
I've had this for about a year now, but thought I'd share with the crew at KT just for fun.
