Black defender

Can anybody tell me anything about this knife? I got it years ago in a pawnshop for $5.00 and the only one I can see for sale is $99.00. Any info would be nice, I'm thinking about selling it.

While I do not have this folder in my hands, those bolsters appear to be made of aluminum. Even the bolster pins appear to be made of the same alloy.

Now, if your style is "stick and quit" or "cut and strut" I see no problem with a knife like this. Even guys who know better sometimes carry a cheap 5-dollar knife for prying or even defense. I have not found that ideology to be very practical. After all, isn't your life worth more than five bucks?

Now look at the blade for a moment. The knife alloys I rely upon don't scratch very easily, if at all. They are the sternest alloys I can find. The picture of the knife shows that it looks like it was scratched with a paperclip.

Again, if you carry a cheap knife to protect your good stuff, I can see it. However, I wouldn't wouldn't want to be trapped against a wall by an attacker who has a "real knife."

I don't carry this at all, I got it at my friends pawn shop for $5 and saw only one for sale @ $98. I only carry a knife to open boxes and envelopes. I carry a Sig 938 Equinox or my old standby S&W model 60 for other emergencies.
I think the bolsters on mine are SS, the picture isn't the one I have.

Looks like a vintage dime store knife.

Here's the updated version of the Black Defender for $2.99. If you're in a hurry for combat duty, Amazon sells them for $5.34 with free Prime 2 day shipping.

That changes things. I used to carry two knives, a smaller one just to open boxes, as well. But like you I decided to carry just one, it's a smaller knife just for chores. Now I just carry Cold Steel Tuff Lite with a wharncliffe blade. The edge is just shy of 2 inches.
