My Father was forced to retire at age 56. At age 74, he mentioned to me that he didn't know how he did it, when he was working, as he doesn't have enough time in his day, now that he is retired.

I took to retirement quite easily. For the last few years I quit going to the clients' restaurants and worked from home. I got more done and I could work at my own pace.

During this period my wife's wages went up and her retirement wages were based on her last five years, if I am correct. Like most boomers we spend like church mice. I don't think I've bought new clothes in +5 years.

The big financial deal we got was my wife's medical coverage. You get a card, ask to see the doctor and insurance pays. For example, my left shoulder gave out recently, and I might have needed some minor surgery. However all the ancillary charges were covered.

It's nice to have money left over for needs like hot coffee and warm socks...
