I purchased Crimson Trace LG-404 P10 Laser Grips for my Ultra CDP II. The issue is the Rt. side safety. It contacts the laser and doesn't completely release. Has anyone ever modified the laser grip or the safety lever? Is this something a gunsmith needs to modify? I would greatly appreciate any in put.

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois Papapaws. What you need to do is change out the right side safety with a bobbed ambi-safety from Kimber made for use with the Crimson Trace grips. This is something that you can do yourself, no gunsmith necessary.

Awesome, thank you...I already placed order with Kimber for the bobbed ambi-safety & can't wait to get the laser grips installed and start sending ordinance down range!!! This is my 1st Kimber 1911 but definitely not the last.

Welcome to the site from Tennessee. As Chuck said Kimber makes the safety you need. It was $19 bucks at my LGS and he installed for free.

Talking Hey Ya'll!!!

Welcome to KT from beautiful downtown Monroe, Georgia!!!

Sounds like Chuck got you straight on dealing with your safety vs laser grip issue. If you don't feel like springing for the $20 for the part, I suggest a large, old, beat up screw driver to be used as a cold chisel and a heavy (about 2 1/2 pounds) hammer to be used in conjunction with the screw driver to shear off the offending metal. This will cost nothing but your time and a bit of elbow grease!! Once sufficient metal has been removed, the thumb safety should work quite smoothly.

Of course, you now have another project on your hands cleaning up the gouges you left in side of the frame and slide. A couple of passes on a good bench grinder with take care of those gouges in no time. You'll be good to go!!! This may not leave your pistol in pristine from the factory condition, but hey, it's close enough, right??

What do you expect from a fat, old, retired ex-telephone Lineman turned telephone Engineer. Remember Lineman's Rule Number 1:

-If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer!!

That is followed by Rule Number 2:

-(Known as the Star Wars Rule) USE FORCE, LUKE!!

Glad to have you with us. Personally, I'd spend the money and get the bobbed ambi thumb safety. I just thought that you might like an option!!! Of course, there is also the choice of using tools designed for finer type work and taking a little more time to make a precision modification to the original thumb safety. But what fun would that be??!! The third choice is for me to send my brother-in-law (the technician) over to do the work for you!! His name is Bubba, his picture is attached below, so that you will recognize him when he shows up at your door like a lost puppy. He works cheap. All ya gotta do is feed him and give him a roof over his head while he works on your pistol!! He is a master of precision work!!

Brain Child!.jpg <---This is BUBBA!! He's all yours!!! Take my brother-in-law........PLEASE!!!
