New member from Dallas TX

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum, but not new to forums or guns & shooting. I'm from Dallas TX, lived here all my life.

I've joined because I've been shopping for a concealed carry gun that I can carry and my wife can also enjoy shooting, we had settled on the Sig P238 but ended up buying the Kimber Micro Carry instead. Both guns seemed very similar, so I saved the $160 and went with the Kimber.

I had my License to Carry back in 1997 but when it expired three years later, I did not renew it. I was too busy raising kids and only had a 6" .357 Mag revolver at the time (not a carry gun!) and couldn't afford to buy a new one. So, 19 years later (with more disposable income) my wife and I got our Texas LTC and that put me back in the search for a decent carry gun.

I'd prefer to carry a 9mm or larger caliber and will likely buy one for me in the future, I assume my wife will claim this Kimber .380 and I'll be searching again - if the Micro .380 works out, I'll likely buy the Kimber Micro 9 - if not, I'll go with the Sig P938. However, I really hate heavy guns for carry and may stick to the .380 platform.

Even though I was raised in the city, I grew up around guns - my dad took me on several deer and bird hunts growing up, and I shot my first round of skeet as a late teenager - and loved it. I dropped most all forms of shooting to raise three kids, but picked it back up again a few years ago. Today, the shotgun sports / clay shooting is my passion - I'm out there most weekends shooting sporting clays, 5-stand, or skeet.

Other pistols include a Beretta PX4 9mm full size, Beretta 950 Jetfire .25 ACP, Taurus 689 .357 Mag, Ruger SR9c 9mm, Ruger SR22 .22 LR, a S&W 622 VR .22 LR, a Rossi M685 .38 Spl revolver, and an old replica of a Navy black powder .44.

I'm hoping to learn more about the Micro .380, ammo it likes, and holster options. I'm also planning to post my first shooting results, in detail. I expect to pick up the gun from my FFL this Tuesday evening - kinda excited about getting it. I'll tear it down for a total cleaning and proper oiling before taking it to the range.

Happy New Year everyone!

Welcome to the forum and feel free to ask any questions you may have about any gun you may have or are thinking about buying. We don't believe that any question you may have is dumb or stupid, we'd rather answer the same question 100 times before telling you to search for an answer.

Welcome from Michigan and congrats on the micro carry 380 I love mine (or should I say the wife does) look into the Hornady Custom XTP round for a defensive round for the micro. Pick up a box and see how they run through your gun. Excellent round for self defense with plenty of penetration for a small 380.
