New to KT, and new to 1911s

Hi... I am new to Kimber Talk. And even though I own several handguns and a shotgun, I am still somewhat of a novice gun enthusiast. I found this forum after I purchased my first 1911, a Raptor II. I fell in love with it at first sight about 4 months ago, but did a lot of research and found a lot of negative publicity. However, after all my research, I obviously decided to purchase it anyway. I haven't had a chance to take it to the range yet, because I've only had it 1 day, but I am eager to get out there.

I found a lot of recommendations about replacing the mag. My Raptor II came with a Chip McCormick mag (not a Power Mag and definitely not a Power Mag +), but I purchased a KimPro Tac and a Wilson Combat 47D from a local shop. Just loading and otherwise handling the mags, I actually prefer the KimPro Tac. I hope I still feel the same after I return from the range.

Any advice about specific ammo I should use to break it in?

Thanks everyone for creating this forum. I look forward to many years of participation.

Welcome from Northeast, Pa.
My Raptor is the best gun I own, I hope you enjoy yours. A lot of us use 1911 magazines from Joe's Mag Mania.

Welcome to the forum from Ohio! Read your manual and use only quality factory ammo during your break in. Good luck and be safe

Welcome to the site from Tennessee. I second JC's advice on Joes1911 magazines, many of us use them. A lot of us use Freedom Munitions 230gr hard ball, for break in and general range use.

Was your Raptor "Used"? All my Kimber's have shipped with a magazine that says Kimber on the bottom. I have never had a problem with the factory supplied magazines.

Don't believe all the trash talk about Kimber's that you read in the internet.

I have these two Raptors.

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois and congratulations on the Raptor II. I'm a fan of Freedom Munitions 230 gr reloads and Joes magazines as well. I should say that I have 20 something Kimber KimPro Tac-Mags and never had a problem with one of them. Clean and lube the Raptor before your first range visit and remember that magazines and holsters also need an occasional cleaning.

Welcome. Kimber's are great. The only ones that don't like them, don't have them.

Welcome to the forum from southern CA.!!
I have a Raptor II myself I love the way it shoots. I did put the Wilson combat flat wire recoil spring kit in mine. They are suppose to last 7-10 times longer than stock springs. I know I like the smooth feel of the slide when I rack it!

Where freedom dwells is my country!
