New member, new gun owner

Hello everyone. Iím relatively new to guns and have gone almost 40 years without owning one (California born and raised, art school graduate if that says anything). The potential devastation expected to be caused by hurricane Irma prompted me to pick up something to protect my home and family in case things got bad. I walked away with a rifle that day. Luckily, we made it out unscathed. Following that purchase I began doing research, which continues to this day. I have since picked up a number of firearms including a Kimber Solo and Micro 9. I have come to realize that this is a very expensive hobby and I really need to show some restraint. There are far too many beautiful and technically interesting firearms for me to collect every single one that catches my eye. That aside, a serial killer has been active recently, pretty much reinforcing all of my purchases (well, thatís what I tell myself). I am planning to get my concealed license within the next few months. I guess you can call me a gun lover now.

Welcome to the forum Airbus, getting the gun is the easy part. Don't forget to get some training in how to use it and care for it and practice, practice, practice. The practice is the fun part.

Aribus, welcome to the site from Tennessee. Congrats on your Micro9. I agree with my Brother Chuck, get some training and practice, practice, practice.
Suck it up there is no cure for the addition you now have.

Welcome to the KT Forum. And welcome to the best hobby there is. Shooting and owning guns can be just for the fun of it ... or be a way to save your life or to protect your loved ones. It can lead to other new hobbies of reloading, hunting, collecting or competition. Or like me ... all of the above. Enjoy!

Thanks everyone. Great community you have here. I'm glad to be a part of it. I suppose at the moment I'm mostly collecting. I've come to realize I've been putting together a mental list of all the firearms I knew I would get one day. I guess that day is now. I work pretty intense hours during the PM so I haven't been able to get anywhere to start shooting. Luckily I'll get to work days next month so I'm definitely going to be putting these things to the test. Meanwhile I've been field stripping, cleaning, oiling all my firearms, watching YouTube videos, and basically devouring everything I can to learn as much as I can about all things firearm related. The only downside is that the more I learn, the longer that list gets. Is joyful misery a thing? Too many beautiful makes and models out there.
