My first Kimber (Micro 9) is on order!

Hello! I'm Nicefish's wife and, as was recommended in a reply to his intro message, I've decided to join the club here at Kimbertalk. My husband is always looking for a reason to buy his next pistol and he's finally found the way to do it without me complaining: convince me that I need another one, then once I agree, he slips in that he "needs" one too. Sneaky, huh?! Wives, watch out!

Well, as my husband mentioned, I haven't been carrying my XDS because I haven't found a way to carry it comfortably while feeling that it is readily accessible. Since I would like to be prepared to protect my family, I jumped on a Black Friday special and purchased a Remington RM380 - sight unseen. It's compact and super comfortable to carry. Its been in my Bulldog and on my side since the date of purchase. Not withstanding range time, of course! It's easy to shoot and it's a nice size for my hand, but it has an extremely long pull and I am sensitive to grips with texture. Besides that... It's a 380. We've become a 9mm carry family, for the ease of sharing ammo as well as other reasons. (Although I'm not letting my non-9mm pistols go!) So, all these things considered, my hubby convinced me to let him find me a 9mm that I could feel confident carrying.

I tried out four candidates at our local Point Blank, then upon an associate's recommendation, tried the Kimber Micro 9. After gripping it, shooting it and trying it out for carrying - I was in love. It took one private conversation with my hubby and we went from one purchase to two. He decided on the Raptor and I struggled deciding. Our range only had the Stainless model for rental and the Raptor for purchase. My hubby and I both want the ambidextrous safety and night sites, which narrows the selection. I thought the Laser grips would be nice, but I'd like to hold a model so as to confirm the laser grip would be comfortable. A laser is a nice-to-have, but on my XDS it's annoying, so I scratched that. I ended up choosing the CDP, but now I'm a bit nervous... The front strap isn't smooth stainless like the rental that I loved - I missed that detail while I was ordering Wendy's burgers in the drive through and he was on the phone with Point Blank ordering my Micro9. (He was too excited to wait until we got home!) My husband keeps telling me it will be better to have the texture. I'll just have to trust him and wait.

Welcome to the forum from Northeast, Pa. Congratulations on your Micro 9. I’m pretty sure you’ll like the frontstrap checkering better than a smooth frontstrap.

Welcome, my UCII does not have front strap checkering and I found it to jump a little much for me. I placed rubber finger grooves on and it seems to help a lot. Good luck on your purchase and have fun.

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois Mrsnicefish and congratulations on the new CDP. The checkering on the front strap (30 lines per inch) isn't overly aggressive and will help prevent the gun from slipping in your grip while shooting.

Congratulations, I'm sure you'll like the cdp version. I have the cdp lg version and it has performed excellent. Just clean, and oil a little on the wet side and you'll be good to go.

My honey's is pushing for an Ultra Raptor ( I just think he wants it for himself) not going to be able to shoot that one, hope to at least get in my hand to feel the weight. Hope you will come back often beacuse this is a wonderful group, very informative and a bunch of fun!

The Micro 9 is 15 1/2 oz. the Ultra is 25 oz. or 9 1/2 oz heavier.
