My name is hodge5, and I'm new to Kimber firearms, as well as the forum.
I bought my first Kimber today- a Micro 9 from my neighbor. I am primarily a Sig Sauer guy, but I appreciate many different brands of firearms. I'm not a fanboy of any in particular, and I like variety. But, with all that's out there, I'd never owned a Kimber.
I had my sights set on the new Sig P365, but the issues that are arising with a new offering has me deciding to wait a while.
In the meantime, I wanted something new to carry. I had a G43, which was utterly reliable- I'd just gotten bored with it. I've owned two Sig 938's, and they were ok. I wanted something else, for the enjoyment of it, and the Micro 9 had caught my attention. My plan was to go to my favorite LGS this coming week, and see what they had in their Kimber display.
That plan had led me to ask my neighbor about his- did he like it, had he had any issues, etc. He told me I could come by and look at it, and that I could borrow it to take to the range, if I wanted. I went to his house after church. I held it, compared it to the 238 that I was carrying, and we talked about it a little. He has Micro's in 380 and 9, and he hadn't shot the 9 much- a couple of mags. He has a lot of guns, and it isn't uncommon for him to have something that he hasn't run, or run much. The gun was in new shape, and he takes good care of his stuff. During the conversation, he admitted that he'd thought about selling it- which is also normal for him. He buys and sells a lot of guns, as the bug hits him. I told him that I was interested, and asked his price. $450 with box and case, paperwork (original receipt included), and 5 mags (all loaded). I knew that it was a fair price, so I took it. I haven't had a chance to shoot it (got it earlier today, and it's raining like mad currently), but I will this week. I don't anticipate any issues, and I am super excited about it.
So, that's what brought me here. I don't know if I'll buy another Kimber, for no other reason than I've been paring down my gun collection. I determined that I had too much, and that when it had gotten to the point that I could not decide which to take to the range, and that I wasn't mastering anything because I had too much, I decide to simplify. I'm about to that point, and don't know if I'll buy anything else- even a 365 later on. But, I do look forward to getting to know this Kimber, and the Kimber community.
