Kimber Custom Carry LE Questions

I recently acquired a Kimber Custom Carry LE in a trade and am wondering if anyone on this forum has any knowledge about this pistol? I contacted Kimber and the only information they could provide was that it was produced in September 2000. From what I understand the LE stands for Limited Edition and the serial number seems to indicate that it was production number 61 of however many they manufactured of this model. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Iíve attached two photos of it in hopes it will help.

Davefokc, welcome to the site from Tennessee. Don't remember seeing one before. I don't think it is a "collector" even tho it is a Limited Edition. It has a very nice old school "Kimber Heavy Carry Melt" treatment. Year 2000 was way before I knew about Kimber's.

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois DAVEFOKC3. Kimber has made numerous limited edition runs of guns. I don't know if they still do it but there was a time when you could configure a 1911 with your own markings on the slide and place a minimum order for 50 guns and they'd make them for you.

How about stopping by our "New Member Introduction" sub forum and introducing yourself to the membership?

Thank you for the help. What would you estimate itís worth? How much would the value be affected if I sent it to Kimber and had them refinish it the same as it came from them when new?

It's a nice gun but I doubt it has any special collectors value. If it were mine I wouldn't hesitate to make any changes that I felt would make it better.

I would estimate it's real world street value to be in the $750-$900 range. I would agree with Chuck, it has good bones to modify any way you like. I don't think a factory refinish would increase the value of your pistol. Real world original finish is almost always worth more to a collector than the very best refinish. IMO

Welcome to the forum from Northern Illinois. I'm with Chuck, make the changes you want and enjoy. While they were limited production #'s, any perceived market value would be in the eye of the beholder.

Well Iím now thinking of sending it to Mad Custom Coatings and having them finish it in their Mad Black Plus coating. Anyone have experience with Mad Custom Coatings?
