New Convert

Hello All,

Checking in from Fort Wayne, Indiana. I just purchased my first Kimber, an Ultra Carry II, which replaced my CZ 75 Compact PCR. Although I am old, I have just started shooting this year, and am diving in head first! Joined the NRA, took the on-line and live intro training classes, and, even though it keeps my awake at night, an avid reader of Massad Ayoob. Hoping to absorb as much information as I can from the experienced folks here. Thanks!

Welcome there, oze. No shame in being old, it just shows that you're experienced to have lived a long time. That's what I tell my kids anyway. (I also tell them stupid people don't live long, so don't be stupid!)

If you read the works of Massad, you'll fit right in here, as he's also one of my favorite authors on the subject we're all here for. I've been shooting all my life and still learn a thing or two from Mas.

So from a fellow COF (Confirmed Old Fart), welcome to the KT forum.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! I took the Kimber to the range yesterday, and yeah, disappointment reigned. I shot 150 rounds, and I'm estimating 1/3 failures to feed. I know about the required break-in requirements, but I guess I was spoiled with the PCR. 3000+ rounds of all kinds of garbage, not a single failure. Unfortunately the slide/frame design didn't leave my old fingers enough to hold for me to be 100% confident that I'd be able to rack it in an emergency situation.

Good news is that the Ultra Carry II is a breeze to rack. Bad news, is that I had to do it a lot yesterday I called Kimber, and the person to whom I spoke was patient and helpful. Back to the range tomorrow, filled with cautious optimism!
