Hello all!

Long time shooting enthusiast & collector (military long rifles)... been away form shooting for a few years and decided to get back into it. Always wanted a decent 1911, and after spending months looking, talking, and doing research I finally purchased a Custom II CDP with a couple of spare Wilson 47D's.

I am super impressed with the finish, quality, and detail work. It's nice to know we can still build something quality like this in the USA. I haven't had a chance to get to the range and shoot it yet, though. Been spending some time reading the manual, visiting sites like this one, and doing basic field stripping and cleaning prior to shooting. Probably a good thing to get to know the piece a bit more!

I've rounded up about 400 rounds of FMJ 230g for break in, though it likely won't be in one session - maybe I'm old school but I feel better doing a quick field strip/clean at around the 150 or so intervals. Any tips on breaking it it? It seems like some have had them run good out of the box and some needed around 500 rds to get it running well without FTF's etc. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have a good one out of the box!

Cheers,

MJA

Welcome to the site from Tennessee! Michael, I think you will find the CDP Custom a great bullet delivery system. If you have already been cleaning, lubing, reading the manual then you are light years ahead of most of the owners that have had problems! Oh I have the CDP Ultra, it is my EDC.

Give us pics and a range report when you can.

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois Mike and congratulations on the new CDP II Custom. I have an Ultra CDP II and love it, it's a very dependable and accurate gun.

Michael,

Welcome from Northern Illinois.

As others have stated, Wash/rinse/repeat. I think general opinion is that Kimber's like to run wet during the break-in period, which is the 1st 500 rounds. I think you are about right, cleaning every 100-150 rounds. Let us know what you think when you get back from that 1st range session.

I would keep hunting that ammo, as these pistols are addictive to shoot, and own. As the old chip commercial used to say, You Can't Own Just One.
