looking for some advice

Hello everybody I was wondering how to go about turning my kimber full size (5 inch slide) into a long slide. I have found a few different places that make 6 inch barrels and slides. Would they work on a kimber frame? Has anyone done this before? Why should I and why shouldn't I do this. Please don't give me the obvious like a bigger sight radius or if not broke don't fix it. It's broke. The barrel blew and bowed the slide.

First of all welcome to the forum.I don't have an answer for your question but I am extremely curious as to what caused this catastrophe to occur?

First, welcome to the forum from Ohio. The long slide and barrel may or may not work on a Kimber frame, and if it does, I'd expect some fitting necessary. I'd consult a local gunsmith for advice. Now, how the hell did you blow a barrel and bow the slide? Squib? Bad reload?

Me too. What cause this and lets see a picture.

1911's are of a defined spec. So if it's for a 1911 it should work, but might need some fitting, from a gunsmith that has done this kind of work. My advise it FWIW, and free of charge, YMMV.

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois, first things first have you had the frame checked out, it may have been distorted. Depending on which model Kimber it is it may not be cost effective to have a new slide and barrel fitted to your frame.

For those of that are curious I have a buddy that reloads. Let's just say that is the last time I take ammo from him. They were obviously hot loads. If the frame is still sound I would like to make a sweet long slide.
