I've been a member here for only a few weeks. I have to say Kimber Talk is probably the most friendly forum I've ever joined and that's something I certainly appreciate.
My reason for reintroducing myself is because I wanted to share what brought me here...at least indirectly.
Several years ago ago I began experiencing odd symptoms. After many visits to doctors and hospitals and after boatloads of tests, I was finally given a diagnosis. PLS, or Primary Lateral Sclerosis.
PLS is one of a number of motor neuron diseases. Others include ALS, MS, Parkinson's, etc. This was actually good news as PLS is not a killer like Parkinson's or ALS. PLS will shorten my life, but not dramatically. My doctor used analogies such as smoking or being overweight. Things that can shorten your life, but only indirectly if that make sense.
My symptoms began as slurred speech and difficulty swallowing. After a few years, my legs began to feel different and my balance suddenly wasn't right. I have actively been involved in sports, riding/racing/restoring motorcycles and building & flying RC airplanes since I can remember. Now I had to begin giving things up. When I had reached the point where it was apparent I wasn't going to be able to enjoy any of my activities, I was worried. I've never been one to be content with sitting around doing nothing.
Then it occurred to me....shooting! I had been involved with shooting pretty heavily during the mid 80's (before getting married
) and having just sold my last motorcycle, I began buying a few guns, a reloading press and some accessories. This is something I always loved as well as something I can fairly easily participate in while seated (my legs are almost totally useless these days).
So far, I'm really enjoying things and I want to thank the members here for being so friendly, helpful and supportive.
