Let's play "What if".

What if:

You're home alone one night sound asleep in bed, the house is secure when suddenly a strange sound awakens you. All houses make noise especially when the weather changes but this was a noise you've never heard before. A quick look at the clock tells you it's 2:30AM, you listen for a minute but you don't hear anything else, now what do you do?

Do you go to the bathroom as Steve suggested?
Do you go back to sleep?
Do you turn on the lights and look around the house?
Do you take a flashlight and look around the house?
Do you take a gun, turn on the lights and look around the house?
Do you take a gun and a flashlight and look around the house?
Do you call the police?
What do you do?

Ok, seriously. My house isn't real big, so I would get up, not turn any lights on, grab my handgun and flashlight and do a walk around. My outside lights are all motion detector controlled and I have had them all come on in the middle of the night. It's usually a critter.

I've also got motion sensor lights on my house but it's so damn windy in this state that it's not unusual for them to go off a couple of times a night on a real windy day.

Jeff, the first 3 words in the OP are "You're home alone".

I get that too if the wind is from the right direction. I've also got a Jack Russell alarm system. She doesn't miss much!

But seriously.I live in a very rural area with a lot of critters walking, crawling around at night. They normally set off the outdoor lights. But we also seem to have an inordinate amount of "methheads"in this county,so it pays to at least give everything a cursory check.Although we have a very good Sheriffs Dept.,they are too few and far between to rely solely on them.
